5 Spring Fashion Trends To Inspire You In 2016

Spring Fashion Trends

                                                                          Spring Fashion Trends

I don’t know about you, but I have approached fashion trend reports with more than a little caution – and for good reason!  To be honest, I don’t like to be told what to do when it comes to fashion (okay, maybe when it comes to life in general, too).  Perhaps you’re like me and your rebel streak comes out when someone tries to dictate your wardrobe.  Excuse me, you don’t know my life!  This is especially frustrating when those orchestrating the trends are designing clothes for only one body type.  And frankly, it is unsettling when there is a mystery around what designs, silhouettes, and colors are going to trickle down from the runway or fashion blog.  No matter how high-end some try to make it look, let’s face it: some designs just don’t work for the everywoman!

However, as I began to study fashion in college and became more familiar with how to observe cohesive designs or predict coming trends, I became more comfortable with the idea of allowing these designs to inspire my own personal taste rather than brainwash me into “what’s hot” and what’s not.  Because each woman is different in her figure and in her personality, it is illogical to feel as though fashion bloggers and runway designers set unbreakable rules in place.  So instead of seeing these predictions as intimidating rules to live by, we are free to instead view them as assets in bringing refreshing new ideas to our own personal expressions of style.  Without further ado, we would like to reveal five upcoming trends from the runways and street style inspiration that you can make your own for spring 2016!

One: Flared denim

In fashion, the pendulum tends to swing from one extreme to the other within a period of time and brings refreshing differences from the way we have grown accustomed to styling our wardrobes.  For instance, skinny jeans have taken culture by storm and are here to stay as classic standards.  But this spring, it’s time to celebrate the pendulum’s swing to the other side and to break out the universally-flattering flare leg!  How this cut ever faded into the background is a mystery.  The slim design from thigh to mid-calf is accentuated with a tasteful flare that brings dimension and balance to your figure, and with high waists also enjoying some popularity, the combination gives you endless options to elongate your legs and flatter your shape.  Be sure to check out this how-to in selecting the best shoes to pair with this look!

Two: Ruffles

To be certain, this trend will be fun to watch as it is interpreted for a variety of styles from the dynamic and dramatic to the simple and feminine.  Although I have always been one to approach this style with hesitation, the variations in design for 2016 are eye-catching show stoppers, such as dainty ruffles on cap sleeves or flowing waves encircling maxi skirts.  In our boutique, we love this classic design from Mud Pie in lightweight chambray with fun ruffles on the neckline.  It’s perfectly suited to your work apparel or after-hours “playtime”!

Three: High Necklines

The high neckline is coming back in a couple of different variations such as the Victorian-era fashions from the runways that feature delicate accents like ruffles and lace.  The ’90s are also inspiring a lot of high neck halters that we saw bring a more feminine appeal than the traditional open-neck halter.  We particularly love the high necklines in swimsuit designs for 2016!

Cut-out Shoulders

It’s time to break out the shoulder workouts this season because you might just be playing peekaboo with your sleeves!  The runways are featuring more fun and funky designs to reveal a little skin, but fashion bloggers and street style fashion photographers are capturing this look in a more relatable style with appealing designs.  We are seeing a lot of off-the-shoulder tops, but the most popular style is the cut-out sleeve that guarantees you’ll be comfortable in your own skin.  Enjoy showing a little shoulder as the temperature rises!

Wrap skirts

The hallmark of any trend worth noticing is versatility, and the wrap skirt has such potential to transform your ability to mix and match.  Examples of this trend are all over the map from casual minis to dramatic, flowy maxis, but my personal favorite is the twist on the classy pencil skirt!  The midi length gives the wrap design a chance to spruce up office attire without risking wardrobe malfunctions, and the silhouette is stunning in solids or fun prints!

These are just a few ideas to kickstart your spring wardrobe inspiration!  Other honorable mentions for upcoming trends are:

~ A note from the author, Sydney:

Thanks for stopping by today for our spring trend forecast!  The study of fashion and culture is fascinating, and I love that we can recreate and inspire with such creativity even with our wardrobes.  I don’t know how I feel about the mule shoe trend, but I am personally very excited to pull my yellow cathead sneakers out again and flare leg jeans are my true love in denim 🙂  Be brave this year and do your thing with your favorite designs that you see!  As a wise lady, once said, “You do you, girl!”  Happy Wednesday, we will see you next week!
